DirectTV is Retarded

Yes, retarded.

Yesterday we went online to add Showtime back to our DirectTV programming (like we did last season) in anticipation of Dexter starting in a couple weeks (and so I can try to catch up on Weeds). In order to add it this time we would have to change our basic package because "it is an old package" and apparently they don't like their old packages. In doing so we would lose FSN Southwest (which happens to be where the majority of Stars games will be broadcast this year) and pay $2/month more than we do now. To get FSN back we'd have to pay an additional $12/month for it. Ugh.

So here was the dilemma. Do we keep our old package, not pay more and get to see all the Stars games but not get Showtime, meaning no Dexter... OR... do we get a "new package", pay more, pay for Showtime (for Dexter) and pay for FSN (for Stars games).

Well, we can't go without Dexter and Stars so we will be forking over extra money... retarded.

Guess you'll only stop using the word retarded to describe stupid things when one of your family members is born with special needs. Unfortunately that what it takes for people to realize how much slurs can hurt.

my brother is a "tard" I have no problem with the word when someone or something acts like a "tard". The word can be entirely apt and should be used in polite conversation more. the reason for this is that by de-mystifying the word, we will increase acceptance of our retarded brethren.

Hondo

For those of you reading this... here was hmshore's original comment that I deleted...

"Directv might be a lot of things but retarded isn't one of them. When you use that word as slang you hurt people with special needs. People who can't defend themselves. Was that your intention?
So, call Directv whatever you want, but when you call them retarded you hurt the most vulnerable of our society.
Thanks so much for listening."
